About Yukikawa Brewery The Story of Snow River Wines
The abundant water sources are not only beneficial for agriculture, including grapes, but the beautiful natural scenery has attracted many people, making the city famous as a "city of photography."
When we first began planning the establishment of our winery and were considering a location, Higashikawa was the perfect fit for the beautiful wineries we had seen in the past.
Wine making starts with growing grapes . The quality of the wine is greatly influenced by the quality of the grapes used. The type of wine is also determined by the type of grapes used.
Before grapes can be harvested from the vines, it is necessary to cultivate them for several years after clearing the fields and planting the saplings. Therefore, it takes much longer than you might imagine for the vision of "the kind of wine I want to make" to come to fruition as an actual wine.
Even if the wine is made in this way, you can't know how it turned out until you actually taste it, and it doesn't necessarily turn out as you expected. The quality of grapes, which are agricultural crops, is greatly affected by the weather. Small, inconspicuous factors can sometimes lead to unexpected, big results.
In Japan, wine is imported from all over the world and a lot of wine is produced domestically, making it much easier to enjoy wine than in the past. However, at the same time, the amount of information about wine has increased, and wine is increasingly seen as something difficult to understand or bound by rules.
When I visit wine-producing regions in Europe and America, I see people casually enjoying wine as a part of their daily lives. I want people in Japan to drink wine casually in their daily lives like that. I want people to enjoy wine at the dinner table every day . I want this kind of scene to become more commonplace, and I want to contribute to fostering a wine culture unique to Japan. Before I knew it, I began to have these thoughts.
That idea gradually turned into the will to establish a winery, and after various preparations, Yukikawa Brewery started in Higashikawa, Hokkaido in the fall of 2020.
Surrounded by the rich nature of Mount Daisetsu,
Along with wine brewed in the water-rich Higashikawa River,
We deliver moisture and connection to you
And when we started the winery, we received more support than we could have ever imagined from many people. Without the connections with these people, Yukikawa Brewery's winemaking would not have been possible. That's why Yukikawa Brewery's winemaking is strongly linked to moisture and connections.
We hope that by brewing and delivering wine from grapes grown in this area, it will provide an opportunity for you to feel moisture and connection in your own lives.
